Effect of Semen Diluents and Dilution Rates on Motility of Guinea Fowl Spermatozoa Under Short-Term Storage

چکیده
The assessment of spermatozoa motility is one of the most often used parameters for semen evaluation. The study was conducted at Poultry Research Station, Madhavaram Milk Colony, Chennai600 051, to nd the effect of different semen diluents and dilution ratio on per cent spermatozoa motility of pooled guinea fowl semen at 5o C under short term storage(0, 3 and 6 Hours). Irrespective of the storage periods and dilution ratio, the semen diluted with BPSE had shown better spermatozoa motility than with IMV diluent. Superior motility at the maximum storage period of six hours was found in semen diluted with Beltsville Poultry Semen Extender at the ratio of 1:2 (77.25±1.32%). Based on the study, it is concluded that dilution ratio and storage period had signi cant in uence on spermatozoa motility and the same must be considered for better fertility by Arti cial insemination (AI) in guinea fowls.

During the semen storage, oxidative damage is one of the major causes of reduced motility and fertility of spermatozoa. Therefore, antioxidants such as zinc and vitamin C in seminal plasma may be have the important effects on reduce the lipid peroxidation of spermatozoa by prevent the destroy effect of ROS. The aim of this study was to evaluate the effect of different levels of vitamin C and zi...

متن کاملP-73: Effect of Sodium Dodecyl Sulfate and Different Levels of Clove Bud Extract on Motility, Viability and Plasma Membrane Integrity of Ram Spermatozoa during Cooling and Cryopreservation
Background: Hen egg yolk is a common component of most semen cryopreservation extenders. However, diluents containing the egg yolk may have adverse effects on the quality of the semen. Egg yolk could be solubilized by the addition of sodium dodecyl sulphate (SDS) in semen extenders. Many studies have shown beneficial effects of antioxidants addition to semen freezing extenders. Antioxidants are...

Background: Detection of sperm parameters based on conventional methods, immediately after thawing, have been revealed sperm capacity to in vivo and in vitro fertilization. But this evaluation is not fully reliable because of long journey of sperm during female genital tract to reach the oocyte and fertilize it. Therefore, analyzing postthawed sperm parameters after incubation is more beneficia...
